In Kasungu Mutchenda Area Programme, the air was thick with anticipation. 13 primary schools had entered the Maphunziro Mbambande Quiz Competition this year on 2nd June, 2026 After rounds of tough questions and fierce teamwork, only 3 schools reached the finals.
What happened next was pure drama.
Chulu Primary, crowned champions for two consecutive years, found their crown slipping. Mwanadindi Primary pushed them to the very last question. Final scores: Chulu 59, Mwanadindi 58. Just 1 point decided it. Chulu held on for a historic 3-peat. Juni Primary took 3rd with 52 points.
But the real victory wasn’t on the scoreboard. It was in the learners.
Meet Annastanzia Banda, 12 a standard 8 learner. Before the quiz, she described herself as “average.”
“My performance changed completely when I joined the quiz,” she says. “Now I’m position 1 or 2 in class. I’m more confident. I speak in public and encourage my friends to follow my footsteps. I don’t focus on my problems anymore — I’m focused on my future. By no means will I miss national secondary school in this year's Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education”
That’s the Maphunziro Mbambande effect. More than a competition, it’s a confidence engine. It pushes learners to work harder, think sharper, and dream bigger.
The reach: Through this partnership, Healthwise Malawi and World Vision Malawi have engaged 2,204 boys and 2,259 girls over 4,400 young minds sharpened, inspired, and prepared for what’s next.
From neck-and-neck finals to classrooms full of new leaders, Maphunziro Mbambande is proving that when learners compete, everyone wins.
